Three Hungry Carts

Approximately 74% of Denver’s solid waste currently goes to the landfill, and only 25% of that is actual trash. The remainder can be recycled or composted. To incentivize residents to recycle and compost, the City and County of Denver will start charging for trash in January 2023. Along with the new fee comes informing Denver residents on the correct way to sort waste, compostables and recyclables.

In the summer of 2022, CIG bolstered education and outreach to Denver residents in their own communities at community events and gatherings. In addition to educational collateral, promotional items and trained staff engagement, CIG developed the “Three Hungry Carts” video series. In each spot, our talking Trash, Compost and Recycling carts provide funny yet accurate guidance on topics including sorting, plastic bag use and proper composting. Created in both English and Spanish, these short 15-20 second spots are geared toward social media to encourage community sharing and engagement. A paid media buy and widespread distribution are planned for late 2022.
